Realtime Sievert comparison

A useful conversation table for everything about radiation units:
* 1 rem = 0.01 Sv = 10 mSv
* 1 mrem = 0.01 mSv = 10 μSv
* 1 Sv = 100 rem
* 1 mSv = 100 mrem = 0.1 rem
* 1 μSv = 0.1 mrem

Today, I found some astonishing result after I compared the radiation Sievert level from Hong Kong to Japan and the results are 0.012uSV/hour and 0.050uSV/hours in average respectively. Indeed Tokyo is really lower than Hong Kong.

For real time uSV/hours, click the following links for details,

http://www.pref.saitama.lg.jp/page/housyasenryou.html (Japan Misato City realtime uSV) Since I lived in Misato of Saitma-ken, so I used Misato as Today. Misato is 30 minutes driving distance of northern Tokyo.

Please also review the other knowledge based article about radiation fact,

a useful conversation table from everything about radaiton seviel.

An competition of the radiation servelt from HOng KOng and Japan as today are 0.08 and 0.054.

Overdeveloped technology

My son has been ill for few days. Every afternoon around 3 pm, his classmates would bring over the “Contact note” from teacher. Yesterday he got about 10 letters from his classmates along with the note; he was so happy. So today he expected he would receive letters again. But it turned out none for today and he was sad. I was thinking I wish I still have the excitement to receive letter from people. I haven’t received any written letters in years. Whoever you want to send me a letter in writing, please do so. I really miss the world without overdevelop technology.

I think I am in good shape for online phishing or fraud

My wife asked me to be careful for the online phishing and the identity theft the other day. I always have a list in my minds. I think I am in good shape.

  1. Don't shop online without the https encryption
  2. Don't shop with online store that you are not sure about it
  3. Don't save your ID and password on your computer.
  4. Don’t ever use your online banking or log on to your email account in public terminal, like internet cafe.
  5. Don’t ever use your online banking or log on to your email account in wifi hotspots.
  6. Don't lend your computer to someone who you don't trust by using Administrator account.
  7. Don’t use your birthday, your license plate, your street number…etc to be the passwords of important online accounts.
  8. Don't open any attachment from someone you don't know. Even for people you know, scan every single attachment before you open it.
  9. Double check the actual destination of the hyperlink from the browser Status bar. When you click www.ebay.com, it might actually bring you to www.phishing_ebay.com
  10. If you believe your email account has been hacked. Change all online accounts that related to that email account right now.
  11. If you lost something that might allow people to access your virtual identity. Act it accordingly. Change the password! Freeze the account! Do whatever it works.
  12. Install and update the latest anti-virus program to protect your privacy.
  13. Never use your check-card that deducts money directly from your checking account for online shopping.
  14. Never wire back the balance for an overpaid cashier’s check until you actually receive the actual bills in your hands, not the figure on your bank statement.
  15. Set a daily limit for the online banking transfer or an alert that email to you,
  16. Shred everything that has your identities on it before you throw it away.
  17. Try to stick with one low-credit credit card for all your online shopping.

YOU REAP WHAT YOU SOW

Repost:

Good morning said a woman as she walked up to the man sitting on ground.
The man slowly looked up.

This was a woman clearly accustomed to the finer things of life. Her coat was new.. She looked like she had never missed a meal in her life.

His first thought was that she wanted to make fun of him, like so many others had done before.. "Leave me alone," he growled....

To his amazement, the wOman continued standing.

She was smiling -- her even white teeth displayed in dazzling rows. "Are you hungry?" she asked.

"No," he answered sarcastically. "I've just come from dining with the president. Now go away."

The woman's smile became even broader. Suddenly the man felt a gentle hand under his arm.

"What are you doing, lady?" the man asked angrily. "I said to leave me alone.

Just then a policeman came up. "Is there any problem, ma'am?" he asked..

"No problem here, officer," the woman answered. "I'm just trying to get this man to his feet. Will you help me?"

The officer scratched his head. "That's old Jack. He's been a fixture around here for a couple of years. What do you want with him?"

"See that cafeteria over there?" she asked. "I'm going to get him something to eat and get him out of the cold for awhile."

"Are you crazy, lady?" the homeless man resisted. "I don't want to go in there!" Then he felt strong hands grab his other arm and lift him up. "Let me go, officer. I didn't do anything."
" This is a good deal for you, Jack" the officer answered. "Don't blow it.."

Finally, and with some difficulty, the woman and the police officer got Jack into the cafeteria and sat him at a table in a remote corner. It was the middle of the morning, so most of the breakfast crowd had already left and the lunch bunch had not yet arrived...

The manager strode across the cafeteria and stood by his table. "What's going on here, officer?" he asked. "What is all this, is this man in trouble?"
"This lady brought this man in here to be fed," the policeman answered.

"Not in here!" the manager replied angrily. "Having a person like that here is bad for business.."

Old Jack smiled a toothless grin. "See, lady. I told you so. Now if you'll let me go. I didn't want to come here in the first place."

The woman turned to the cafeteria manager and smiled....... "Sir, are you familiar with Eddy and Associates, the banking firm down the street?"

"Of course I am," the manager answered impatiently. "They hold their weekly meetings in one of my banquet rooms."

"And do yOu make a godly amount of money providing food at these weekly meetings?"

"What business is that of yours?"

I, sir, am Penelope Eddy, president and CEO of the company."

"Oh."
The woman smiled again. "I thought that might make a difference." She glanced at the cop who was busy stifling a giggle. "Would you like to join us in a cup of coffee and a meal, officer?"

"No thanks, ma'am," the officer replied. "I'm on duty."

"Then, perhaps, a cup of coffee to go?"
"Yes, maam. That would be very nice."

The cafeteria manager turned on his heel, "I'll get your coffee for you right away, officer."

The officer watched him walk away. "You certainly put him in his place," he said.

"That was not my intent. Believe it or not, I have a reason for all this."

She sat down at the table across from her amazed dinner guest. She stared at him intently.. "Jack, do you remember me?"

Old Jack searched her face with his old, rheumy eyes. "I think so -- I mean you do look familiar "

"I'm a little older perhaps," she said. "Maybe I've even filled out more than in my younger days when you worked here, and I came through that very door, cold and hungry."

"Ma'am?" the officer said questioningly. He couldn't believe that such a magnificently turned out woman could ever have been hungry.

"I was just out of college," the woman began. "I had come to the city looking for a job, but I couldn't find anything. Finally I was down to my last few cents and had been kicked out of my apartment. I walked the streets for days. It was February and I was cold and nearly starving. I saw this place and walked in on the off chance that I could get something to eat."

Jack lit up with a smile. "Now I remember," he said.. "I was behind the serving counter. You came up and asked me if you could work for something to eat. I said that it was against company policy."

"I know," the woman continued. "Then you made me the biggest roast beef sandwich that I had ever seen, gave me a cup of coffee, and told me to go over to a corner table and enjoy it. I was afraid that you would get into trouble... Then, when I looked over and saw you put the price of my food in the cash register, I knew then that everything would be all right."

"So you started your own business?" Old Jack said.

"I got a job that very afternoon. I worked my way up. Eventually I started my own business that, with the help of God, prospered." She opened her purse and pulled out a business card.. "When you are finished here, I want you to pay a visit to a Mr. Lyons...He's the personnel director of my company. I'll go talk to him now and I'm certain he'll find something for you to do around the office." She smiled. "I think he might even find the funds to give you a little advance so that you can buy some clothes and get a place to live until you get on your feet... If you ever need anything, my door is always opened to you."

There were tears in the old man's eyes. "How can I ever thanK you?" he said.
"Don't thank me," the woman answered. "To God goes the glory. He led me to you."

Outside the cafeteria, the officer and the woman paused at the entrance before going their separate ways....

"Thank you for All your help, officer," she said.

"On the contrary, Ms. Eddy," he answered. "Thank you. I saw a miracle today, something that I will never forget. And..And thank you for the coffee."

God is going to shift things around for you today and let things work in your favor.

If you believe, send it.
If you don't believe, delete it.

God closes doors no man can open & God opens doors no man can close..
If you need God to open some doors for you...send this on.

Have a blessed day and remember to be a blessing...
LIVE WELL, LOVE MUCH, LAUGH OFTEN

What do people remember us?

One day, you and I, he and she will not longer be here.

Do you know what will be left behind?

It is not our facebook account or our long friends list. It is not our brand clothing. It is not our properties or our cars;
It is our kids, our parents, our unpaid credit cards bill, our hatred, our greed and our enemies.

Do you know what do people remember us?

It is not our own achievement, but the achievement of the mankind. It is not how much money we gained, but how much many we gave. It is not how much we learned, but how much we shared. It is not how many trees we destroyed, but how many tree we planted. It is not how much food I wasted, but how much food I at least tried to save.

The only thing that will leave behind and how people remember us is our spirit. It is never about money or personal achievement.

Today, I met a handicapped patron in the neighborhood MacDonald. He was obviously out of his mind and acted abnormally. However, when he finished his meal, he carefully separated all garbage disposals and divided into burnable, non-burnable and unfinished beverage. Undoubtedly I was wrong. He was actually more normal than lots of people, who still think recycle is waste of time and global warming is a hoax.

An Uchiwa Story

In Japan, businesses and residents are making efforts to reduce the use of electricity. This is a story of a hand-held fan called "Uchiwa". The other day, I was in a fast ramen restaurant and I saw an Uchiwa. Since my kids like to collect Uchiwa and I thought it was only a gift or an advertisement of the restaurant. I took it, placed it inside my bag and took off. A couple of days later, I went to the other restaurant and I realized that the Uchiwa which placed over the counter is not meant to be taken. Since most businesses rose the temperature to 28 Celsius degree in Japan now, the Uchiwa is used for people who feel hot about the temperature. I am so embarrassing for what I did and amazed how Japanese handling this energy shortage voluntarily and unconditionally.

Some Difference Between China and Japan

China and Japan are so close in terms of geographical location, but there are lots of different between them, from sense of value to culture, technology to discipline-

Chinese people use ring tone and talk inside the train,
In Japan, people use only vibration inside the train and you hardly see people talk over the phone. Instead, they watch TV and listen to music with headphones, play games and send email and SMS.

In China, children gather and play around the house complex and apartment building hall way,
In Japan, children only play in the park and school.

In China, trash pile up after events and the end of the day in park,
In Japan, people tend to carry their own trash back home, no matter how big the event is or simply a family panic and BBQ. This is the reason why people can’t locate trash can in Tokyo. They simply don’t need it.

In China, you got horned if you don’t move your car in 2 seconds after green light,
In Japan, if you don’t move your car after green light, cars just wait for you patiently.

In Hong Kong, people complain everything,
In Japan, people tend to not to complain in order to avoid conflict.

It is common for Chinese to invite friends and colleagues to their house,
In Japan, this simply isn’t done. Not after you knowing him/her for 10 years.

In China, we bow for dead people only,
In Japan, staff bows for customers and principle bows for students. It is simply a greeting and a sign of respect.

Chinese people tell you directly what they want without any hesitation,
Japanese always make you guess what they mean. And please pay extra attention for sentence with this word, “kore wa chotto…”

You can easily names a list of well-known brand names from Japan,
There are only a few well–known brand names from China. I wish we could work on the quality over quantity.

In China, people use all kinds of transportations to get around,
In Japan, most people take train to work, use bicycle to go to the train station and drive their cars on weekend only.

In China, traffic signal is meaningless,
In Japan, traffic signal means everything. Of course, I do see people across the street at night with red signal.

In China, if a train comes on time, you are lucky,
In Japan, if a train is late, you are lucky.

In China, it doesn’t matter how you do it as long as the job is being done,
In Japan, it doesn’t matter you can finish it or not long as long as you follow the instruction.

Majority of Chinese use pirated software and watch pirated movie,
Majority of Japanese use original software and watch movie in the theater. They are just so honest.

Chinese cuisine- tastes come before the look,
Japanese cuisine- tastes might not always be good, but it always looks good.

Chinese people do thing on their own, there are no need for a manual because no one will read it,
Japanese have manual and instruction for almost everything- how to turn on a computer? How to eat an ice cream cone? Or how to open a box?

Toilet in China is just too dirty. I really don’t know why.
In contrast, toilet in Japan is much cleaner.

Every month, every week or even every day, China has food safely issue.
In Japan, it barley has it all, not even once a year. Nobody is going to argue with this.

The principle in Japan is not to bother people,
The principle in China is how to benefit oneself. But god bless, it is only a few millions of them in China.

These are strictly my own interpretation of China and Japan in 2011. I wish time can change and shake things up.

What matter most?

It is just feeling so good to use 1 less resource of the planet earth each time. And I am not going to tell you again that when we are all known that everything has an end and limited. Whether it is using the other side of a used paper, taking one less plastic bag, recycling the papers and PET bottles, using a fan instead of a A/C, riding a bike instead of driving kids to school, walking away an hour from the computer and TV and playing with kids outside under the sun, taking a cold shower in summer, fixing the broken bag or clothes, growing your own vegetables and so on. Whatever it is, as long as it makes you happy and you care by heart. It is all matter.

Wednesday, June 15, 2011

We still can make the different.

By reduce, reuse and recycle properly, we all together can slow down and stop unnecessary pollution, conserve natural resources, and help slow down global warming.

From papers, PET bottles to cans and batteries, CD, paints, glasses, plastic caps, wire, Styrofoam, electronic appliances, cell phones, computers and cartridges, they are all recyclable.

In Japan, Recyclable wastes are further divided in several subcategories. I have 4 different of garbage collection days and 3 different recycling centers. And it may sound ridiculous to you. But in Japan, there are not way we can dump any home appliances without paying it. That’s one of the reasons why everything looks in so new in Japan. Because if that is still in good shape, you can sell it to the second hand shop; otherwise you have to pay to dump it.

By the way, they best way to drop you used light bulbs and batteries are Ikea. For you cell phone, give it back to your carriers. Honestly, do you really need a new phone? And have not ever thought about where the old one go and I am not going to argue with you they are toxic or not because it is.

2 months after Fukushima

The Fukushima incident indeed has changed our life of living and thinking that we are safe. You can build a stronger structure to prepare for the earthquake, and you can built a taller tsunami gate to prepare for the tsunami, but we almost can do nothing for this kind of catastrophe or potential future biochemical attack. Anyway, this to months I have used more bottles of water, reserved extra tap water, and spent more money on dried and canned food. It is time to review and go back to my style of living. Let's see how many pledges of 2011 I have been done so far:

My new pledges from 2011:
• Not dump my used cooking oil down the drain (ABLE TO)
• Place a filled water bottle in my toilet tank (ABLE TO)
• Buy and use vegetable-based dishwashing detergent
• Use the least amount of energy when drying my dishes (ABLE TO)
• Use biodegradable, “green" cleaning products
• Use natural hair products
• Replace on hour of television or one hour of computer use per week with something not requiring electricity, like playing with the kids" (ABLE TO)

Brand new life

4 new socks, 2 underwear tops, 2 shirts, and a spring coat, along with my existing 4 shirts 4 pants, 5 ties, 2 set of suits, 1 winter coat and the only pair of shoe, I think I am ready for my brand new life in Japan. I will be heading to the Kaihimmakuhari of Chiba for my new job. Starting from a part time kitchen helper to replenish logistic worker, and a IT customer support to full time server support team, it didn’t come easily. It took me 25 months of hard work and unbeatable patient in this new country of mine. However, I don’t have any bits of overconfident because I know that I still have lots that I don’t know, that I will have to learn in the future. I can handle it. I will be able to handle it. I have to handle it.

A simple life

I am in the process of preparing my second candle flashlight dinner for tonight- I am actually hate to say that, do any of you realize that we, no longer can live on our own anymore? Everyday, we have to rely on someone on almost everything to survive or to keep us in a well being. That’s really suck. We, no longer can live without light for 3 hours at night; no longer can live without TV or computer for 3 hours; no longer can live without tab water or bottle water; no longer can cook without gas; no longer can live if for 2 weeks without sanitation workers collecting our trash; no longer can survive if all groceries closed for 2 weeks; no longer can go to work without the mass transportation; car become meaningless when gasoline is not in the picture; cell phone become unusable because of overloading, doctor and medicine are not available anymore.

I wish I can, we can, just live a simple lives, no TV and computer, drinking from well and stream, cooking without fire, producing zero trash, growing our own food, going to work by walk or bike, communicating back to way on 20 years ago, not rely on doctor and medicine anymore. Am I thinking too much or peoples are just not thinking? For sure, I don’t need nuclear power plant to my power supply. Do any?

Iodine level

Radiactive iodine were found in the water supply, however the levels were way below the legal limit of 300 becquerels/kg, Gunma is 2.5 becquerels/kg, Tokyo is 1.5, Chiba is 0.79, Saitma is 0.62 and Niigata is 0.27. So we are all safe for now.

Don't Panic

As yesterday, the radiation leak is not as bad as the media said. In Tokyo, there is about 0.045μSv/hour, which is 0.000045mSv/hour, Saitama prefecture is 0.058μSv/hour and Chiba prefecture is 0.033μSv/hour (today). Even those you are living in Fukushima (20km away from the plant), there is only about 10.80μSv/hour or 0.0108msv/hour. You have to expose for a total of 26 days to equal to one CT scan.

Supplies are back on shelves. Thought rice, dairy products, noodles, candles, flashlight, and batteries are still storage because of months long planned power outage. Yesterday we had our first candle/ flashlight dinner in Japan and 3 hours water-less lives. However, lives are back to normal. I will back to work on next Tuesday and I even have my dentist appointment on the following Wednesday. There is no more radiation crisis on TV all except news. People. Don’t panic! The world is not yet end.
